Mixed Media Masks Textile Art

I love mixed media, especially when textiles are involved.  I love the process of combining found objects, purchased objects, paint, sewing, textile, construction, and on and on.  This post is about one exploration into mixed media.

(Today’s post in the Blog Writing series detours from the prompt.)

Several years ago, I read a  wonderful Book, Astonishment and Power, about the art of Renee Stout.  Renee Stout‘s work described in this book was deeply steeped in exploring the messages and mysteries that can be hidden in art.  She drew from the rituals of creating  minkisi, objects that embody spirits.

This led me to create a series of masked nkisi objects that I show here without further explanation as to meaning or process.
