Well, I just love, love, love making a modern mini quilt for Swaps.
This summer, I joined several swaps and this week, I mailed off three completed modern mini quilts. I have four more modern mini quilts to complete this Fall….and it is still FUN!!
Beach Bound Swap Mini Quilt
The theme was beaches and it was right up my alley–well–Sarasota Beach! Here’s the mini that I made and quilted with lots of free hand walking foot quilting using variegated threads. I also found a wonderful ‘beach theme fabric in my stash and fussy cut out the delightful signs. They are fused onto the
blocks.

Text Me Mini Quilt
I also joined a swap where we had to use at least two fabrics with text on them. I fell in love with a print that was yellow and orange and actually had the word ‘letter’ on it. I also used some of my low volume Paris themed fabrics. I decided to do some paper piecing and used EQ7 to print out one Storm at Sea block. I then made several improvisationally pieced blocks to surround the paper pieced block which is set slightly off center. My quilting is walking foot and improvisational–no marking. And Voila!

Yes….that tiny corner block finished at 1-1/2 inches!!

Sew My Stash Mini Quilt
The third swap challenge was to only use fabric already in your stash. While I was at the Manatee Patchworkers Guild Retreat, I started improvising some curved blocks. My theme fabric is a luscious tropical floral and I added a black & white print, several deep solids and a crisp white. I quilted it using three different color threads–with my walking foot of course.

And here are some detail shots showing some of the quilting up close.

The mini quilts are very creative! Enjoy viewing!
I love your designs and use of color! You are a great inspiration for a novice like me.
Thanks Brigette! I hope that I inspire you to trust your own sense of color, design and style. I love seeing how people take my patterns and techniques and make their own unique quilts.
