Art of the Quilt: My Journey, My Stories

A live virtual lecture available to groups

This lecture and trunk show is the story of my exploration of art quilt making.  There will be lots of time for questions and answers. In addition to the lecture and slides, I also show some of my quilts on my design wall and table during the lecture.

Description

In this lecture/trunk show, I share how I moved from making traditional quilts to art quilting. I discuss the elements of design and my experiments with many techniques such as painting, printing and using alternative fabrics. I also discuss the importance of keeping art journals and how my journals support my ongoing practice.  During the lecture, I share many examples of my art quilts,  including ‘Story Work’ that expresses my cultural and family history.

Topics include:

  • Traditional to Modern – My first leaps!
  • Elements of an art quilt – a loose definition
  • My artistic inspirations
  • My favorite processes for surface design
  • Working in Series: Abstract Works and Story Works

All lectures are conducted live over Zoom. There will be lots of time for questions and answers. My lecture fee is $550 for events scheduled through 12/31/2024.  I am currently scheduling through 2024.
