Upcoming Classes, A Prize, A GiveAway and More!

Hello Everyone, I am excited to share some great news with you. A lot of good stuff is happening in my quilt life these days and I’m celebrating. In fact, be sure to read to the bottom of this post to find out about a GiveAway!!

I WON AN AWARD!

My quilt, MidCentury Modern: Black and White won a Prize at MidAtlantic Quilt Festival Competition for Best Use of Negative Space in the MidCentury Modern Category. The award included a Ribbon and a Cash Prize that I am sharing with my Long Arm quilter because her work really complemented my design.

This MidCentury Modern Curves Quilt in a minimalist black & white palette is a big departure for me.

I am so thrilled to receive this recognition. This series of quilts has been so satisfying. I’m starting a new version this week and I have one more that I might start soon.

New Class Added

I’ll be teaching several modern workshops at the Minnesota Quilters Conference this summer.  Due to high demand, they have added an additional section of the MidCentury Modern Quilt Workshop.  REGISTRATION:  click here.  To get information about the classes, visit my earlier blog post.

Hear my recent Interview with Quilter Pat Sloan!

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Quilting Master Pat Sloan!  We had a lot of fun exploring ideas about how I got into quilting and my love of color and improvisation as a modern quilter.  Lots of laughs–it felt like I was having tea (or wine…) with an old friend.  Thanks Pat for this opportunity!!  On this March 18, 2019 podcast, you can also hear from Shannon Fraser, Marci Debetaz and Kelli Fannin.  Be sure to check out earlier shows or subscribe to the podcast, American Patchwork and Quilting Radio.

  1. I never thought I would like “modern” quilting, but that has changed. I find it is like all the other forms of quilting; some I like, some I don’t! I love your black & white quilt and can see why it won!

    1. Congrats on your award, l love your work , your black and white quilt really caught my eye and totally agree the quilting was perfect with your design

  2. Congratulations on your ribbon! Certainly deserved. It’s climbing to 77 degrees today in Southern California…might just abandon sewing temporarily for a nice walk.

  3. Love the stark look of the shattered pieces in the quilt. The greek scroll and swirl quilted pattern mimics and enhances the pieces in the quilt. Love it!

  4. As a longarm quilter, I adore modern quilting!! I love all that negative space for me to play with thread!! Your quilt is gorgeous and your quilter chose the perfect quilting design to enhance the beauty of your quilt!! Awesome win!!!

  5. Derietra L Neal-Ferguson

Carole ?. Great things are coming your way. Well deserved! Congratulations.

  6. Congratulations, well deserved. It’s a beautiful quilt. I haven’t tried any modern quilts yet but have found more and more quilts that I like.

  7. Love that mid century modern! I hope you will be coming to the San Diego area again soon!

  8. Looking forward to your class next week with Central Florida MQG. Would love to win the gift certificate!

  9. Congrats on all the great things happening for you! It’s so rewarding when your hard work starts paying off.

  10. Congratulations on this wonderful award! Your quilt is awesome! I haven’t done any modern quilting like this – I’m a little insecure about my free motions skills and all that negative space. But I certainly admire modern quilts, and I’m going to keep practicing! Thank you for your generous way to celebrate!

  11. Congratulations on winning. I am so happy you are sharing with your longarm quilter. Her/him work is fabulous as well as yours.

  12. Congratulations on your award – well deserved. Your quilting on this piece is exquisite. I am a regular customer of Pineapple Fabrics – thanks to my sis introducing me to the company, so this would be a fun giveaway to win. Thanks for offering it.

  13. Congratulations on your ribbon, your recognition, and the Instagram milestone. How nice to have so many good things coming together at the same time–enjoy the ride! I think it is good of you to share your prize with your longarmer, and to note that you are doing so, because it acknowledges the important part that the machine quilting plays in the viewer’s appreciation of the quilt’s design. A confident artist can say, “Yes, someone else’s contribution made my work even better.” And because you did that, in relation to your stunning quilt, perhaps other people will give more respect to their own longarmers.

  14. Congratulations on your win. I am enjoying working with modern quilts idea too. Thanks for sharing the love!

  15. Langhurst Cynthia

I recently took this class in Daytona Beach and it was the most eye-opening, freeing quilting experience I have ever had. Thank you!!

  16. Congratulation!. Your B&W version of the Midcentury Modern Curve quilt is fabulous. I like the little bits of b&w strewn throughout the negative space. I’ve been a member of the MQG for several years and am excited about its continued growth.

  17. I am just getting into modern quilting. I love your designs and use of color. The black and white quilt is awesome too.

  18. Congratulations on having so many good things in your world right now. I kept going back to the ombré version at QuiltCon–there’s so much to see in it! Some day I’d love to take the class…

  19. As of my last check (I’m looking for you!) you have surpassed 2000 followers on IG! I’ve been a long-time one myself. I always listen to Pat Sloan’s podcast when I’m sewing, but the past week I have been infested with Influenza A, so there has been no sewing…just lots of sleeping and groaning. Your modern design is so appealing to me and I always get new ideas from you!

  20. Congratulations on so many good things all at the same time. I kept going back to the ombré version at QuiltCon-there’s so much to see in it! Someday I’d love to take the class…
