Behind the Scenes

When I received the invitation to be on the show, I was very honored.  After all, Alex Anderson and Ricky Timms have been leading lights in the movement to bring the story of quilting and textile arts to the world.  Many innovative artists and makers from all over the world have been featured on the show.

When I arrived for the taping, I was so impressed at the relaxed and very professional atmosphere.

I had a fabulous time working with Alex Anderson, the producers and the film crew.  After all, it can be very scary to stand in front of TV cameras talking with one of your idols.  Unfortunately, Ricky Timms was in quarantine with Covid and could not join us.

In my segment, I talked about my AfroModern quilts and my GeoAbstraction quilts.

In the first demonstration, I showed how I translate an EQ8 sketch into a Geometric Abstraction quilt.

In the second demonstration, I showed how I work with very modern African prints while making a blocks for a very modern Fractured Disappearing 9 Patch.  Alex and I even did some sewing!!

I think you will find the tutorials really interesting.   And, you can learn more techniques for making a Fractured Disappearing 9 Patch by signing up for my on demand Fractured Disappearing 9 Patch class on Creative Spark.

Here are more behind the scenes shots.

Hanging out with other guests being filmed the week that I was there. Sign up for a membership and find out all abut these fabulous quilters and textile artists.

Alex’s Journey

Alex Anderson has announced that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.  In her inimitable style, she is openly, honestly and courageously sharing her journey with the world in hopes that she can educate others about this disease.  We all are sending her thoughts of love and support for healing.  So many people have asked how they can further help,  so Alex has launched several products you can purchase to support breast cancer research and patient support organizations.  You can find out more here.

Here are additional resources — above all, please connect with your doctor for annual screenings and learn how to perform self-checks at home.
