Hi Everyone,
I decided that I wanted to make a modern quilt for my home while sitting around during Thanksgiving week. And, I decided to make it FAST!! No designing in EQ7–just a simple approach using rail fence blocks and large blocks made from 10 inch layer cakes.
Well my fast project went well….but not quite as fast as I thought it would. But, the good news is that the top is finished!!
Here’s a shot of the blocks I pieced–and then pinned up on on the design wall. And, there’s a shot of some of the fabrics that I used. I used Elements jelly rolls, Elements 10 inch layer cakes and several other fabrics from my stash to create the 10 inch blocks. (I didn’t use the Figures fabrics after all.) The Paris fabric made it really sing–and Paris is one of our favorite places.
But, the layout of the top was starting to look a bit…dull….So, I searched through my stash and found some very old yardage with Japanese symbols on it. I decided to make an alternate grid using this fabric as sashing. I then added improvised pieced borders on the top and bottom.
Here’s a partial shot of the finished top. It’s so big that I can’t photograph it easily in my studio, but I think you get the picture. Now, I’m taking it to my long-arm quilter because I just don’t have the energy to push it through my home machine. I’ll post a full photo when it’s quilted.
Hope to see this in January at the SMQG
