On the Design Wall

Day 19 of the 31 Day Blog Writing Challenge and I’m chugging along nicely.  I hope that you have enjoyed these musings.  I’ve had a lot of fun writing them, that’s for sure.  And I invite you to CLICK to meet other Bloggers!

Today’s prompt is On The Design Wall. Well, I’m editing that to be On the EQ8 Design Wall because today (as I’m writing this), I am between projects.

I design many of my quilts in EQ8 Software. So I might have 30 versions of an idea before I actually make one or two versions or send to my testers to try them out.  In this post, I’m going to share variations on an idea.

Here are some blocks that I created in my Abstractions series. I’ve combined squares and triangles.  When I’m designing, I usually use solids so that I can really focus on the shapes.

Now, here’s a series of quilts using one or more of these blocks.  I started playing with color by adding a black & white print to see how the secondary shapes start to change.

EQ8 software allows me to recolor blocks and rotate them randomly using the symmetry tool.  I used the Symmetry tool on Quilt #104 to create Quilt #105, and I added borders to the designs.

Wait, there are no curved blocks!!

I easily fixed that.  I added curved blocks to one of the block designs  and inserted the new block in 3 places in Quilt #105.   Then I recolored the white to yellow.  Here’s the latest version of the quilt –  Quilt #106 is starting to look interesting but it’s a long way from being finished.  I love EQ8–and  I could play all day.
